"Practical financial solutions can dramatically transform the lives of the poor. Our work around the world proves that with the right tools, almost anything can be achieved"
Professor Muhammad Yunus
Clifford Chance and WAM UK are delighted to invite you to a unique event with 2006 Nobel Peace Prize laureate Professor Muhammad Yunus, founder of the Grameen Bank in Bangladesh and leading personality in microfinance in celebration of International Women's Day.
Professor Yunus will present the new Grameen initiative to provide microcredit to the UK, helping to address issues of entrenched poverty and multi-generation welfare dependency. The talk will include a brief presentation on the state of financial inclusion in the UK and how microfinance could help improve the financial capability of the millions of people in the UK who do not have access to the mainstream banking system.
Professor Yunus will present his vision on how microfinance, which has traditionally been associated with the developing world only, is relevant to developed economies. The experience of Grameen America (launched in 2008) demonstrates that the Grameen model can be adapted to a developed economy. This talk will allow us to have a unique insight into Professor Yunus' vision for Grameen UK, which will focus on some of the UK's least advantaged communities, initially in the west of Scotland.
The talk will be followed by a book signing by Professor Yunus from 1.30pm to 2pm.
